Jane Cox is a lighting designer for theatre, dance and opera. She grew up
in Ireland and spent a year abroad at UMass Amherst, living in Butterfield
and studying with the wonderful Penny Remsen, all of which convinced her
to move to the US in 1993. Recent theatre in New York includes: Dame
Edna on Broadway and designs for Brooklyn Academy of Music; Playwrights Horizons;
Signature Theatre; New York Theatre Workshop; Vineyard Theatre; Primary Stages,
CSC. Regional theatre includes designs for the Guthrie; Arena Stage;
McCarter; Long Wharf; Seattle Rep; Denver Center; Alliance Theatre and the
Minnesota Opera among many others. She works in Ireland with the Corn Exchange
Theatre Company. Jane has long term collaborations with the choreographers
Doug Varone, David Dorfman and Monica Bill Barnes, and more recently also
designs for Eliot Feld. Last year Jane taught theatre design at Princeton
and dance lighting design at Sarah Lawrence College, as well as several classes
at Williams College. She is thrilled to this year be returning to her alma
mater to teach Penny Remsen's students for a year! Jane received her
MFA from NYU in 1998, was a recipient of the TCG/NEA Career Development award
2001-3, the resident lighting designer for the O'Neill Playwrights Festival
2000-3, and has been nominated for several lighting awards including the
Lortel Award and the Audelco Award.
